Deb Carey

 

DEB CAREY joined Benjamin Historic Certifications (BHC) in 2022. Prior to that, she worked at Northern Trust for over thirty years.

BENJAMIN HISTORIC CERTIFICATIONS Deb has intensively researched, written and prepared Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) and Historic Illinois Buildings Survey (HIBS) recordations. She completed ones for the Rock Island County Courthouse and for Ravinia School in Highland Park. She is currently working on a HIBS documentation in Geneva Illinois. In Maywood, she undertook an extensive survey of the Maywood Village business district. Deb also researches National Register of Historic Places nominations and works on property tax assessment freeze applications.

NORTHERN TRUST Most recently Deb worked in the Global Family and Private Investment Office as a lead relationship manager, where she focused on customized investment strategies and reporting needs of large individuals and families. Prior to that she was responsible for leading the effort to research, define, develop, and market trust, investment, and banking services to individuals and small businesses through electronic channels. She began her career focusing on financial reporting, budgeting and strategic planning of Northern Trust's Corporate and Institutional business.

EDUCATION Deb graduated with a BBA in Business Administration from St. Mary's College of Notre Dame and an MS in Historic Preservation from the School of the Art Institute. Her thesis documented the work of Jacob Holzer, who had a significant career with Louis Comfort Tiffany, working on both mosaics and stained glass. Since that time, Deb has taken further classes from the Belvedere School for Hands-On Preservation, focusing on windows, glass and plaster work.

VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES Deb served as Vice-President and also Treasurer of the board of the Glessner House. She was also chairperson of the Finance Committee and still sits on the House and Collection and Development committees. She has been a docent with the Chicago Architecture Center since 1990 and guides the Chicago River, Louis Comfort Tiffany, Beverly and Frank Lloyd Wright tours. Ms. Carey is also co-tour director of the Pilsen neighborhood tour that she helped to develop.
