Julie A. McKEON has been associated with Susan Benjamin as a Preservation Specialist since 1999. A major responsibility of Ms. McKeon's is the completion of the application process required to enable private homeowners to obtain the Illinois Property Tax assessment freeze. Past and ongoing projects include historic properties along the North Shore, including Fort Sheridan. Other application projects include homes in Hinsdale, Naperville and the Astor Street Historic District. Tax credit projects include the Home State Bank in Woodstock, Illinois. As part of the certification process she is often responsible for researching, writing, and presenting local landmark nominations to a town's preservation commission. She works closely with project architects, developers, building contractors and homeowners and coordinates the firm's work on certifications with the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency. In addition to her work on certifications, Ms. McKeon has prepared, co-authored and assisted in the preparation of National Register nominations. Her projects have included the Indian Hill Manor and Farm Historic District, Rockford; the John B. Griffith Store, Lake Bluff; the Mrs. David Adler House in Libertyville and the Butler School in Oak Brook. She has worked extensively on two architectural surveys, 1999 Highland Park West Side Reconnaissance Survey (600 structures) and the 2001 Glencoe Greenleaf Historic Area Survey (72 structures). Ms. McKeon received an M.S. in Historic Preservation from the Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois in 1999. Graduate coursework included an internship in Ennis, Ireland where she studied the construction of the 15th century Ennis Friary. While there, as a separate project, she drafted initial guidelines for preservation planning for the Town of Ennis. The guidelines were presented to the International Conference on Monuments and Sites.(ICOMOS). Ms. McKeon holds a 1992 B.A in Architectural History from the University of Illinois, Chicago. Currently Ms. McKeon serves on the Steering and Registry Committee of DOCOMOMO, an international non-profit organization whose purpose is to document and conserve buildings of the modern movement. She is a former Chicago Architecture Foundation docent and board member of the Elk Grove Village Historical Society. |
